Talking Trash: Everyone’s Trash

Author Duncan Watson will talk about waste management and recycling at the Moultonborough Library on April 7, 6 pm. He will be joined during the Q&A portion of the talk by Moultonborough’s award-winning transfer station supervisor, Ken Filpula.
Duncan Watson is the author of Everyone’s Trash and a 33-year veteran of Keene, NH’s solid waste program. Praised for his ability to blend humor, statistics, and heartfelt stories, Duncan will share his vision for the future of waste management and how communities can achieve an 80% diversion rate from landfills without increasing costs.
Ken Filpula’s recognition as NH Recycles 2025 “Recycler of the Year” honors nearly two decades of turning Moultonborough’s waste management into a model of community education. Since 2008, his leadership through major program shifts, creative signage, and the establishment of a home composting site has transformed the transfer station into an accessible, sustainable hub for the community.
