Art on Display at the Library

June: Daughters of the Revolution Display
The June display case will feature “America’s Semiquincentennial – the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence” by the Winnipesaukee Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).
The DAR is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women’s service organization. Founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., DAR is dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education for children.
DAR members volunteer millions of service hours annually, including supporting active duty military personnel and assisting veteran patients, awarding thousands of dollars in scholarships and financial aid each year to students, and supporting schools for underserved children.
June: Art by Ann Xavier
Raised in Queens and educated at the Rhode Island School of Design, where she explored painting, ceramics, and art education, Ann Friedman dedicated thirty years to teaching art before retiring to New Hampshire’s Lakes Region. Her subsequent artistic practice and deep commitment to civic life in Center Harbor—including her leadership with local heritage and library boards—reflect a belief that art and community are fundamentally intertwined.
Rather than dwelling on the world’s dark places, her work represents a conscious choice to pursue beauty and light, a mission she keeps vibrant by constantly tackling unfamiliar creative challenges like nighttime landscapes and intricate mosaic tiling. Ultimately, she measures the success of her diverse creative output by its ability to transfer a genuine sense of peace and happiness to the viewer.
