2025 Youth Services: Building Connections for the Next Generation
The library’s commitment to our younger patrons extends far beyond our own walls. In 2025, our Youth Services department focused on meeting children and students where they are—at school, in the community, and outdoors. These collaborations allow us to support local educators, assist families, and provide unique learning opportunities for children of all ages.
Supporting Academic Success
Our partnership with the Moultonborough schools remains a primary focus of our outreach efforts. Throughout the year, we visited classrooms to promote library card registration, and assisted 5th-grade students with their research projects. We were also proud to host the 4th Grade Poetry Showcase and maintain a presence at the Elementary School Open House, the annual Learning Expo, and the School Extended Learning Holiday Fair.
For older students, the library serves as a space for civic engagement. High schoolers can earn their required community service hours through us, and we were particularly pleased to supervise two developmentally challenged high school volunteers this year, providing them with meaningful work experience in a supportive environment.
Community Events and Recreation
We continue to work closely with the Recreation Department to bring families together for seasonal celebrations. This year’s highlights included the “Halloween Boolevard” in October, “Holiday Lights and Dinner Delights” in December, and our annual Egg Hunt. We also supported the “Tod Squad,” a mini-summer camp experience designed specifically for children ages 3 to 5.
Our summer programming was further enriched by local cultural partners. We held weekly Monday storytimes at Castle in the Clouds and monthly sessions at the Boat Museum, allowing children to enjoy literacy in beautiful, historic settings. Additionally, Carroll County 4H brought technical expertise to the library, leading summer STEM programs and a specialized 3D printing class.
Local Outreach and Tradition
The library also played a central role in regional competitions and traditions this year. We served as the committee chair for the Sandwich Fair Lego Competition, managing applications and submissions right here at the library. We also maintained our involvement with the Carroll County Head Start Program, participating in their Literacy Night to support early childhood reading habits. Finally, we are grateful for the support of our local civic groups and businesses. The Moultonborough Women’s Club assisted with the Santa Fund and shared their time through guest read-aloud sessions. In the fall, village businesses partnered with us for the annual “Trick or Treat through the Village,” ensuring a safe and festive experience for local families. These collective efforts ensure that the library remains an integral part of growing up in our community.
