Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant
by Anne Tyler
Tyler takes us into the lives of three siblings whose adult lives are impacted significantly by the early desertion of their father and childhood in a single parent household. Although Ward and Strout have depicted families in which children grow up without one or both parents, it is the three Tulls who are most defined by this absence. Cory, Jenny and Ezra each view their family from a different perspective.  Their mother, Pearl Tull, loves her children but always with a sense that they are imperfect, that something is wrong with them. How they live with this emotional impoverishment is the story of this amazing novel, which the Pulitzer Prize winning novelist says is her greatest work.
Our scholar, Dr. Suzanne Brown, agrees with Anne Tyler on that assessment and I am so looking forward to what she will share with us about this beautiful and heart-breaking novel...Susan Merrifield           603-476-8895
