Spring Book Discussion Series
Little Fires Everywhere
by Celeste Ng

Celeste Ng sets this story of family and class and race in the upper middle class suburb in which she grew up, Shaker Heights, Ohio. Perhaps it is this writer’s deep knowledge of place that renders this story so engaging and compelling. The fires Ng describes are not just the arson that is part of the plot but the tensions that simmer and flare up between parents and children and siblings and friends. These conflicted feelings are aroused when self-interest, human sympathy, and varied allegiances collide.

We are delighted to welcome back Rev. Gina Finocchiaro of The First Congregational Church of Wolfeboro to lead this discussion.  She is the perfect person for this conversation due to her diverse ministerial work, her experiences with families, and the fact that she suggested this novel for this theme.  Rev. Finocchario has a long history of social justice and hospice work. We look forward to her layered perspective on Ng and her award-winning novel...Susan Merrifield
