Learning to Drive
In Learning to Drive, author Mary Hays portrays two sisters who are strongly influenced by their religious beliefs. In 1952, Charlotte McGuffey both re-embraces Christian Scientist and decides to separate from her husband with whom she has felt increasingly estranged. Just days after Charlotte announces her desire for a separation, her husband, Melvin, dies in a car accident. Trying to make sense of both Melvin’s death and her own life, Charlotte travels with her children to her husband’s hometown where her faith, identity, and sense of obligation are challenged. This is a story of transformational relationships and the power of the human mind and spirit.
We are thrilled to have author Mary Hays return to Moultonborough to discuss her own work. You may recall that Mary’s 2016 analysis of The Great Gatsby was both well attended and well received.
